Pick Up Sticks ~ Craft

Boy is it hot here! After raining all week, the weather has made a complete turnaround and is now 90 degrees! Anyway, a few years ago our good friends Gwen and Megan showed us this super easy craft that is perfect for playing on the sidewalk or in the house!

You will need 30 toothpicks and 5 different colored markers. We used purple, red, blue, green, and yellow.

Color one toothpick purple.

Color the ends of the rest of the toothpicks. 7 red, 7 blue, 7 yellow, and 8 green.

To play, hold all of the sticks upright in the middle of the playing area.

Let them scatter.

The first player tries to pick up a stick without making any other sticks move. If another stick moves, it is the next player's turn. However, if they are successful, the first player continues to pick up sticks until they move another by accident.

Each player keeps their sticks until there are no sticks left.

If a player gets the purple stick, they may use it to move other sticks. Only this stick may be used in this way.

Once all of the sticks have been used, the players count up their points. Purple: 25  Red: 10  Blue: 5  Green: 2  Yellow: 1

Players may choose to continue the game by once again scattering the sticks.

When finished, use a clear elastic to keep your sticks together.
